Health and Safety Coordinator

We are currently looking for a



Health and Safety Coordinator to deploy to the McMurdo Antarctic research station on a contract basis from approximately October 2009 to February 2010, as well as February 2010 to October 2010.











We are looking for Primary and Alternate employees to fill all contract positions. The Primary is first in line for the position. The Alternate is next in line to deploy should the Primary be unable to meet deployment requirements.

Responsibilities:



Responsible for implementing Raytheon Polar Services Company (RPSC) Safety and Health Plan and ensuring RPSC compliance with applicable industrial and Federal codes. This position deploys to the McMurdo Station, Antarctica. During wither deployment this position acts as the primary point of contact (POC) for safety program compliance and communication efforts.







Develops and implements safety and health standards, criteria and guidelines, such as those issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and all other applicable regulations.









Summer Position (Approximately October 2009-February 2010):



Specific Tasking will include:



* Scheduling and conducting training sessions based upon demand. (Training includes: General Safety Awareness, Supervisor Safety Training, Scaffolding safety, Confined Space, Fall Protection and Respiratory Protection)



* Ensuring training tracker is up-to-date for safety department specific training conducted.



* Issue confined space monitoring equipment and ensure confined spaces permits are compliant prior to approval of entry.



* Complete respirator fit testing.



* Provide guidance to the McMurdo Station Safety Committee.



* Attending weekly work center safety meetings as requested by the Safety Supervisor.

* Complete work center visits/inspections to ensure compliance with work center specific safety programs.



* Assists in accident investigations.



* Performs other duties as required.









Winter Position (Approximately February 2010-October 2010):



Specific Tasking will include:



* Acts as on-site safety and health consultant for station. (POC)



* Scheduling and conducting training sessions based upon demand. (Training includes: General Safety Awareness, Supervisor Safety Training, Scaffolding safety, Confined Space, Fall Protection and Respiratory Protection)



* Ensuring training tracker is up-to-date for safety department specific training conducted.



* Attending weekly work center safety meetings as appropriate.



* Issue confined space monitoring equipment and ensure confined spaces permits are compliant prior to approval of entry.



* Completes respirator fit testing.



* Completes work center visits/inspections to ensure compliance with work center specific safety programs (Audit completion of weekly work center inspections, JHA's, weekly safety topics, and job specific training records.)



* Assist with PPE distribution to work center supervision.



* Completes required water monitoring and sampling regiment.



* Provide guidance to the McMurdo Station Safety Committee.



* Follow-up and provide assistance with incident investigations and root cause analysis.



* Acts as subject matter expert for station and assists work centers by answering questions and helping to solve problems.



* Performs industrial hygiene and safety surveys. Documents findings according to accepted procedures. Uses and maintains health and safety related instrumentation, including 4-gas meters, noise dosimeters, Photo Ionization Detectors.



* Provides updates to safety management team at Denver Headquarters.



* Maintains current knowledge of industrial safety procedures.



* Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy.



* Conducts inventory of health and safety related supplies, and provides information to manager for purchase.



* Performs other duties as required.



* Assists with environmental, waste management, fire protection, and medical issues, as requested.







Required Qualifications:

BS in chemistry, environmental, engineering, health and safety, or related field required. Equivalent relevant experience accepted in lieu of a degree. Minimum 2 years experience with safety and health rules, regulations, standards, and the components of an effective safety program, including plant operations and/or construction safety, fire protection, public health, and development of related training programs is required. Experience in conducting thorough root cause analysis to ensure root cause is eliminated in response to any safety-related incident is required. Proficient in conducting safety training and presentations to groups, with the ability to communicate with both large and small audiences is required. Knowledge of personal computer applications, such as Windows, word processing, e-mail, and internet is required. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely is required. Ability to maintain good working relationships with employees is required. Working knowledge of basic industrial hygiene principles is required.







Desired Qualifications:



Experience in construction safety is preferred.

All contract positions include competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. For the time you are in Antarctica compensation also includes travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus upon successful completion of your contract.
