As an independent, locally owned consulting firm that has been in business since 1997, we have 3 main areas of expertise: Software Life Cycle Support, Data Warehouse Support, and Infrastructure Support.
Unison Systems has an immediate opening for a mid-level Sybase DBA/Developer at one of our Denver client companies. This role has responsibility for database health, backup and recovery techniques, data distributions, data analysis and environment configuration and application support in the database. Support of multiple development and production environments. On-call rotation will be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Massaging/converting/migrating data from clients' old systems to new, based on a lot of database work/sql work #strong sql dev/scripting/perl, etc is a must.#
- Ensures that proprietary software written on Sybase databases are maintained at the highest level of support.
- Ensures that client/server applications run successfully and are optimally tuned to maximize use of system resources while minimizing client impact.
- Resolves problems and answers questions related to Sybase and proprietary software environments.
- Performs ad-hoc queries, data updates, and reports as necessary.
- Database system development and maintenance will be essential duties of position.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:
- Strong preference for someone with
PL SQL development experience on application-database types of projects, rather than back end SQL reports or maintenance jobs, etc.
- Solid understanding of relational database management systems including tables, schemas, indexes, configuration parameters for performance, security, and data integrity.
- Five to seven years experience and at least one in on-the-job database development and production support.
- Preferred skills: ASE 15, 12.5, Replication Server 15, IQ 12.x, Windows OS, Linux, Solaris Unix, perl, korn shell scripting, SQL Anywhere.
- Working knowledge of performance monitors and debugger tools.
- Solid understanding of networking and distributed computing concepts.
- Full knowledge of Sybase products, including programming and ways to optimize T-SQL code.
- Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs.
- Ability to solve problems quickly and thoroughly.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence.
- Team player with proven communication skills.
- Ability to work with other functional groups effectively.
- BS in Computer and Information Science.
