Sr. Structural Engineer We are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with DOE or Commercial Nuclear background for a contract assignment with one of our Clients in Aiken , SC. GTSTRUDL & MATHCAD experience required. POSITION OVERVIEW: Determines methods and solutions for complex engineering problems and selects the most efficient and economical manner in meeting the objectives. Carries out large and/or complex technical assignments, applying sound and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of structural engineering. Makes independent decisions regarding methods and approaches to be used. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices, as necessary. This level of Engineer is a highly qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of current engineering software, theories and practices. Professional registration is preferred. May direct and supervise lower level personnel.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for significant portions of structural design on a large government project. Areas of responsibility include design and analysis of concrete and steel for heavy industrial process facilities, review, resolution and coordination of field interferences and problems and preparation and management of supplier procurements.
Must be technically competent and have superior aptitude with GTSTRUDL finite element software. Effective skill with commonly available software programs (Microsoft Office, MathCAD, etc.) is also required.
Previous experience in working in a multi-discipline design team environment is preferred.
Keeps superiors advised of status of assignments with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, or other unusual problems or developments.
Provides technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses.
Ensures compliance of design with all applicable standards and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer when required by statute or contract. Experience with, and expert knowledge of IBC 2003, ASCE 7-02, AISC ASD, AISC 341-02 and ACI 318-02 is strongly preferred.
Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.
Helps determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule. May assist Section Supervisors with other administrative and technical duties.
Recommends and prepares technical papers and reviews supplier data as required; read supplier/manufacturer drawings. Resolves interferences with design drawings and completes other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Requires BS degree in Engineering or related field (or 5 to 7 years of directly related experience) and a minimum of 10 additional years of related work experience. Typically, incumbents have an advanced degree and 12 or more years of related experience. Computer proficiency and the ability to perform as a project manager are required. Typically requires a professional registration.
