We are currently seeking Systems Administrators to deploy to McMurdo, South Pole or Palmer Antarctic Research Station for various periods of time beginning in approximately October of 2009. We are seeking both PRIMARY & ALTERNATE employees to fill all contract positions. The
primary is first in line for the position and the
alternate is next in line to deploy should the primary person be unable to meet position and/or deployment requirements.
Responsibilities:
Under general direction, the
Systems Administrator is responsible for assisting the Sr. Systems Administrators and Systems Operations Manager with installing and maintaining an efficient working environment for a complex network of core production servers supporting the RPSC mission and objectives. Performing a variety of complex professional duties, the Systems Administrator maintains operating stability, efficiency and security of RPSC's core production server systems and infrastructure; conducts necessary technology research; recommends, deploys and configures new hardware and software; provides user training and support as necessary; and performs related duties as assigned. The on-ice contract systems administrator is part of a matrix management structure, reporting to both the Systems Operations Manager and IT Station Manager.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED SKILLS:
* BS/BA degree OR equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of degree
* A minimum of five years hands-on experience with increasing responsibilities administering client/server applications and hardware in a multi-platform networked environment
Must possess a high level of expertise in the following areas:
- Windows 2000/2003 Server
- Windows XP Professional
- Active Directory administration
- Security and patch management implementation of standard configurations
- Group Policy Administration
- Administrative scripting (highly preferred)
- Exchange 2000/2003 administration
Position additionally requires the following:
- Strong troubleshooting skills with hardware and software
- Practical experience with Linux or UNIX systems
- Practical experience with LAN/WAN network administration
- Project management and documentation skills
- High level of initiative and dedication, and an ability to work independently once given general direction is required
- Outstanding customer service and interaction skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to be a team player and willingness to lend a hand with any project
DESIRED SKILLS:
* Computer Science Degree
* MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer)
* RHCT (Red Hat Certified Technician)
* Experience with VOIP systems a plus

All contract positions include competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. For the time you are in Antarctica compensation also includes travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus upon successful completion of your contract. FYI - Only authorized personnel are allowed on station and you need to remain on station for the duration of your contract except in case of emergency.
